About me, Michael G. Koerner

I was born in Milwaukee, WI on... (ENOUGH of the BORING stuff...)
I recently earned a degree in Urban and Regional Studies (a fancy term for 'City Planning') from the University of Wiisconsin Oshkosh and am working on achieving that very first entry level job in the field. Until then, I am making the rounds for the various Domino's Pizza stores here in the Appleton, WI area. The thing I like most about the job is that I can get out into the neighborhoods and see for myself what works and does not work in the world of City development (as well as the ability to say 'hello' to so many different people!!!).

I purchased my first REAL computer (a Macintosh!!!) in July 1996, and went on line in late January 1997. In early March of 1998, I upgraded to a 'G3' (the very LAST of the old style 'beige boxes') and added a scanner so I could make much more full use of the resources of the internet. I enjoy conversing with friends in DALnet under the nicks 'MGK920' and 'Wisguy'. Favorite activities include following highways and railroad activity, exploring new places, anything of a geographic nature and, of course, the Green Bay Packers!!!

About my hometown; Appleton, Wisconsin

Downtown Appleton, WI from the Onieda Skyline bridge over the Fox River, looking north.

Appleton is a prosperous city of just over 70,000 in a fast growing metro area of about 200,000 people in northeastern Wisconsin, about 165-170 km north-northwest of Milwaukee, 330-340 km or so north of downtown Chicago and about 50 km southwest of Green Bay, WI (GO PACKERS!!!!!). The major industries in the metro area are paper making and converting, insurance and retail commercial, with lesser amounts of other heavy industry (Pierce firetrucks, Neenah Foundry sewer covers and other iron castings and Miller Electric welders to name three).

Other views of the city:

Looking east from the Oneida Skyline bridge, Downtown is to the left, Lawrence University is in the background and in the foreground is an apartment complex that was converted from an abandoned paper mill.

Looking south from a parking ramp at the north end of the Oneida Skyline bridge. This parking ramp is located below and in front of the tall building at the left side of the top photograph.

The Fox River looking northward from the College Av. bridge on the city's near east side.
