Progestationals may be used adjunctively to minimize risk of endometrial cancer. *Lower-cost generic equivalents are available for some brand-name HRT drugs. "All approved estrogen drug products carry substantially the same labeling text because of their substantially similar safety and effectiveness profile in humans." FDA, May 22, 1995. The FDA has not approved any form of HRT for the prevention of heart disease because the studies conducted to date have been observational only and do not measure up to the standards typically used to prove a drug is effective.
