Mike Fitzpatrick's “Reality Check”
column originally was published in the Wisconsin InStep for four years
prior to the paper's untimely folding in
December, 2003. The
column's
"queer take" on LGBT news of national and state interest was one of the
paper's
most widely quoted features.
Mike's work has appeared over the years in Ron Geiman's original IN
Step, The Wisconsin Light, and currently can be found in Quest
, where he serves as news editor. That paper's current size limitations
does
not permit room for a lot of extended commentary., However, Quest
remains the
only
true, statewide news and entertainment guide as it continues in its
thirteenth
year
of uninterrupted publication. |
About
Mike
Though born and raised in the New
York City metropolitan area, Mike has called the Midwest and Wisconsin
his home since the Sixties.
While many may be familiar with his more than 22 years of work
in HIV/AIDS or his long time LGBT political activism, many may not
realize Mike has over forty years of writing experience as well. His
first paid piece appeared in the Winona
Daily News in 1965. His first feature to appear in a
national publication was in the The
Advocate, a quarterly journal of the National Association of
Student Council Advisors, in 1973.
In the last 15 years, besides his work with the Wisconsin's
statewide LGBT press, Mike has edited the Positive Voice Newsletter and
currently edits the Green Bay Area Unitarian Universalist
Fellowship's monthly GBAUUF
NewsNotes.
